What Does “100% Natural Origin” Mean on a Skincare Label?

“100% natural origin” refers to the origin classification of ingredients within the stated calculation system. It does not mean the product is 100% organic, free from processing, fragrance-free or clinically more effective than other formulas. To interpret the number fairly, ask which standard defines natural origin, whether the percentage refers to the whole finished formula and what certification, if any, applies.

Natural origin is not one all-purpose claim

Label statement What it addresses What it does not answer
100% natural origin Classified origin of the ingredients, under a defined method Clinical performance or individual tolerance
X% organic origin Certified/defined organic-origin proportion Whether every ingredient is organic
COSMOS NATURAL Conformity with a natural-cosmetics standard Automatic COSMOS ORGANIC status
Vegan Absence of animal-derived ingredients under stated criteria Fragrance-free, allergy-free, or organic status

Why the calculation method matters

Cosmetic ingredients can come from plants, minerals or other sources and may be processed before use. Under formal standards, the classification can involve specific rules about allowed processes and ingredient categories. Two unrelated “natural” claims are not automatically comparable unless their methods are aligned. Always check whether a company names its method or an independent certification.

Do not treat “100% natural origin” as a medical recommendation. Naturally derived fragrance components and plant extracts can still be unsuitable for some individuals, just as a synthetic ingredient is not automatically harmful. What matters for a buyer is the full formula, personal tolerance and the precise outcome claimed.

Five-second label audit

Look for the exact percentage wording; the applicable COSMOS signature if claimed; the certifier; the separate organic-origin figure if shown; and the complete INCI list. If the label mixes those categories together, ask the brand for clarification.

The LÉVOJU connection

Some LÉVOJU products currently display origin percentages on their individual product pages. Such percentages should be repeated in articles only after the exact SKU's documentation is rechecked.
