Vegan skincare generally describes products formulated without animal-derived ingredients according to the claim or certification criteria being used. It does not automatically mean fragrance-free, organic, non-irritating or suitable for every skin type. A product may fit someone's ethical preferences while still containing potent actives or fragrance; evaluate its full formula separately.
Separate the claims
| Word on the label | Main question it addresses | Does not automatically prove |
|---|---|---|
| Vegan | Are animal-derived ingredients excluded? | Sensitive-skin tolerance |
| Fragrance-free | Is fragrance intentionally absent under the claim used? | No possible irritation |
| COSMOS NATURAL | Does it meet a certification standard? | Vegan or organic status unless separately documented |
| Dermatologically tested | What testing occurred? | Universal suitability |
Why plant-based does not mean reaction-proof
Plant extracts, essential-oil components, acids and other cosmetic ingredients can cause irritation or allergy in some people. Equally, a synthetically manufactured ingredient is not necessarily harsh. It is more accurate to assess exposure, concentration, complete formulation and your own skin's response than to declare either group inherently good or bad.
If your skin frequently reacts, simplify the routine, review fragrance disclosures and avoid introducing several new items at once. Persistent dermatitis deserves professional assessment rather than another attempt to guess the cause from marketing terms.
How to shop by your actual priorities
Start with one non-negotiable criterion—perhaps vegan formulation—then separately check texture, fragrance, specific allergens, product directions and evidence for the cosmetic benefit. Choosing between two good formulas is often about tolerability and routine fit, not a single badge.
LÉVOJU's place
LÉVOJU offers products with verified vegan claims at the individual-SKU level; that does not permit describing the whole range as fragrance-free or hypoallergenic. For examples of how to read actual formulas see Fragrance in Facial Cleanser, Fragrance in a Peptide Cream and the Sensitive Skin hub.
FAQ — Are vegan products necessarily plant-only? No; vegan formulations may use permitted non-animal ingredients from several sources. Does vegan mean COSMOS certified? No, these are separate claims.
